Program for Seniors to Work Off Property Tax Bill

In spite of the fact that Nantucket has one of the lowest property tax rates in the state, the property tax bill can be onerous for those on a fixed income.  Nantucket has a program whereby senior citizens (those over 60 years of age) are able to perform volunteer work for the Town in exchange for tax credits.  The goal is to assist citizens with paying their property tax bills as well as enhancing municipal services by utilizing the skills of qualified volunteers.  Applications are available at the Saltmarsh Senior Center at 81 Washington Street or through the Tax Assessor’s office.
