Iconic Nantucket Foods

On a quiet day in February I was recently enjoying a cup of the Green Chicken Chili from the Corner Table and thinking that it is so good it is likely to become a future staple of island cuisine.  That led me to thinking of some of the iconic foods from my childhood summers on Nantucket.

Does anyone remember Malachite Ice Cream from the Sweet Shop on Main Street?  It was green and had little chips of malted milk balls in it.  How about the Zuchinni Sticks from the Atlantic Café?

A perennial favorite that one can still find is the Turkey Terrific sandwich from Provisions (turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce on herb bread).  Other favorites include the curly fries at the Brotherhood, bread from Something Natural and, of course, Downyflake doughnuts.

Here are some newer treats that might well become iconic Nantucket foods in the future, in addition to the White Chicken Chili:

Snickers Bar Ice Cream from Island Kitchen

Lola Burger with Truffle Fries

Pi Pizza, thin crust and wood-fired
