Polpis is a large area on the north side of Nantucket that runs from Shawkemo to Pocomo and Wauwinet. It is rural in character and many homes in Polpis have frontage, or views of Nantucket Harbor. Polpis has the only harbor on the east end of the island and it is a base for operations for Nantucket Community Sailing. The harbor is protected by Coatue. The Hidden Forest is located in Polpis as are large tracts of conservation land including the Windswept Bog, owned and operated by the Nantucket Conservation Foundation. Large lot zoning provides for quiet and privacy and the central area of Polpis is largely protected but accessible for public enjoyment. One of the most interesting bike paths on the island runs along Polpis Road and this is by far the most scenic route to the eastern end of the island.

The most expensive Polpis listing is 183 Polpis Road, at $9,850,000, an estate with a pool and tennis court on 5.98 private acres and with distant water views.
