For those looking to get some last minutes tickets to this year’s 14th Nantucket Wine Festival, they are out of luck. For the first time ever, this annual celebration of the fermented grape has sold out of tickets to just about everything.
“This officially marks the selling out point,” said founder and executive director Denis Toner, late Monday afternoon. “We will have people begging for tickets after today, but for us at the Wine Festival this is good thing because it means we are financially back to where we were before the economic downturn. We’ve seen increases in sponsor money and a particular willingness of people to come out and enjoy this event this year. For a time it was the end of the world as everyone knew it, but the thinking is different now.”
As of that time there was only a couple of Saturday morning seminars with a few spots left, which, he said, were sure to go quickly.
Pared down slightly from years past with one less Grand Tasting session on Sunday, the festival will retain its trademark events this year including the opening night Gala held at the Brant Point Grill, but Toner and his staff are introducing some new aspects for guests to enjoy as well.
