After what feels like two winters in a row there are some new signs of spring. The days are longer (one week until the clocks spring ahead), the sun actually has some warmth to it now and the daffodils are just starting to poke up. Similar to last year, this spring and summer will be different but there is a pervasive feeling that we are heading in a much more positive direction than we were one year ago. At this time last year, we were facing many unknowns about our community health and the local economy, making it impossible to plan in any meaningful way. This year, with continued clear instructions and strong leadership, we have learned how to better navigate the challenges and fallout from 2020. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has just moved into Phase 3, Step 2 of the state’s Re-Opening Program and we are slated to move into the beginning of the final phase, Phase 4, later this month if the public health metrics continue to trend in the right direction.
Some changes now in effect statewide with Phase 3, Step 2:
- Indoor performance venues such as concert halls, theaters, and other indoor performance spaces will be allowed to reopen at 50% capacity with no more than 500 persons
- Indoor recreational activities with greater potential for contact (laser tag, roller skating, trampolines, obstacle courses) will be allowed to reopen at 50% capacity
- Capacity limits across all sectors with capacity limits will be raised to 50% and exclude employees
- Restaurants will no longer have a percent capacity limit and will be permitted to host musical performances; six-foot social distancing, limits of six people per table and 90 minute limits remain in place
Please note there is still a mandatory travel advisory in effect for anyone travelling into Massachusetts from another state which includes filling out a form and complying with self-quarantining and testing regulations.
With the broad implementation of the vaccines, and the number of rentals already booked, we anticipate that this summer will be very busy on Nantucket. If you are seeking to rent a vacation home – do not wait to book!
