A very short Special Town Meeting was held last night and over 500 Nantucket voters were in attendance. One of the more hotly debated articles, leading up to the meeting, was Article 11 which would have, among other things, expanded the purview of the Historic District Commission to “scenic vistas and historic places”. Just prior to the meeting the article sponsors got together with some of those opposed and agreed that it would be best to table the article to a future Town Meeting. This gives an opportunity for all sides to work in a calm and measured way towards a reasonable solution. Our bet is that the article would not have been passed had it been voted on last night.
