The numbers from the Town of Nantucket are in for 2013 and there are some interesting trends in building (and tearing down) on Nantucket right now. The total number of permits issued by the Nantucket Building Department in 2013 was 1,714, the highest ever. This is no surprise to those of us living here – there are signs of new construction, renovations and additions island-wide.
Here is the breakdown for new construction of single family residences (not including renovations and additions):
The data for pool and dock permits is also surprising. One can assume that most of the permits issued in this category were for swimming pools since there is a moratorium on new docks:
And, lastly, there were 18 permits for demolition of residential structures issued in 2013, the highest ever.
