Nantucket’s Historic Main Street Fountain

Restored Nantucket Main Street Fountain

After over a year of waiting, our beloved fountain has returned to lower Main Street. The fountain was meticulously restored to replicate the original use as a water source for horses in the late 1800’s.  In 1973, the Nantucket Garden Club started the tradition of decorating the fountain. At the end of the month, Garden Club volunteers will be filling it with a welcome burst of color from a large fall planting and forcing of spring bulbs. There will be daffodils, tulips, hyacinth, muscari, scilla and other hardy spring plants. In mid -April, daffodils will dominate with a selection of seldom seen varieties. Watch for the plantings to change as the weather warms up!
