The building known as the Mooney Building, located at 22 Federal Street, is actively being marketed for sale. The property was purchased by the Town of Nantucket and previously held Town offices. In 2012 there was a consolidation of these offices and Town administration decided that the property should be sold. The Town issued a Request For Proposal, to which there was only one response. The Town has a minimum bid price of $2,750,000 and the offer they received was only $2,250,000. The building needs a considerable amount of work including bringing it in compliance with current code depending upon the kind of proposed use. There is a lack of commercial space for rent or for sale in the downtown area right now and we are watching, with interest, to see what happens.
