Siasconset, pronounced ‘Sconset,’ is the only other town on Nantucket Island besides Nantucket Town itself. Situated on the East End, it features its own post office and three dining establishments. Claudette’s is popular for sandwiches, while the Chanticleer Restaurant offers fine dining amid its renowned gardens and wine cellar. The Sconset Market provides freshly baked goods, and the nearby Bookstore is really a package store. The town is known for its charming rose-covered cottages and surf beach, which is lifeguard-protected during summer months. Overlooking the area is Sankaty Head Light, distinguished by its bold red and white stripes, near the Siasconset Golf Club’s 18-hole course. There is a second private club, Nantucket Golf Club, and Coffin’s, also known as Skinner’s, a public 9-hole course. For members, the Sconset Casino has tennis courts with red clay, a tradition maintained for over a century, adding to the town’s historic charm and recreational appeal.
