Nantucket: the Holidays Have Started on Nantucket

The week before Thanksgiving the DPW starts to put the Christmas trees up that line Main, Center, Federal, Broad and South Water Streets.  It portends the calm before the rush and excitement of the holidays.  This week, and next, various schoolchildren, business and non-profits will each decorate a particular tree, many of which are years-long traditions.  Watch for the Coast Guard tree, usually very special, and located in front of the pharmacy on Main Street.  This morning the Nantucket Fire Department, with the use of a bucket truck, was stringing the lights on the larger tree at the top of Main Street.  There is the Nantucket Tree Lighting and Community Caroling, on Friday, November 23, beginning at 5:00 PM at the top of Main Street.
