Nantucket Restaurant Scene

Harbor from BoatEach spring there is a flurry of news as restaurants change hands, relocate and re-invent themselves.  We are lucky to live in a place with so many fine and varied dining options.  Here is the skinny this spring:

Company of the Cauldron has been sold to Chef Joseph Keller who has had a long a distinguished career in the kitchen.  Years ago Joe worked at the Club Car and at the Woodbox.  He moved off island for many years and is now back on Nantucket, luckily for us.

Charlie Noble is a new restaurant opening up in the space formerly occupied by the Atlantic Café and Nix on South Water Street.  The folks from BYB (Back Yard Barbeque) are running it and focus will be on family dining and traditional seafood.

45 Surfside Road is newly opened for breakfast and lunch.  It is a bakery that serves great sandwiches and salads on the south side between Town and Surfside Beach.  The folks running it are super friendly and the food is inventive and fresh.  There is plenty of parking and located right on the bike path.

The Club Car is under new management after decades under the stewardship of Joe Pantorno.  We have heard that a consortium of owners has purchased the restaurant and that they will be true to the Club Car tradition.

Tilbury and Skiff is the name of the new spot by Patrick Ridge of Island Kitchen (adjacent to Island Kitchen) and the plan is to serve, among other things, homemade doughnuts and ice cream.  Based upon the quality and success of Island Kitchen we are sure this will be a great new addition to the Mid-Island area.

Surfside Beach Concession Truck is being run by Marshall Thompson, formerly of Jetties Restaurant.  We hear he has some inventive new ideas and are looking forward to trying it out.

The Jetties is being leased by new owners who have promised to keep the fare and vibe family friendly.  Location cannot be beat for dining and water views at sunset.  We hope they continue the tradition of live entertainment.  And it is easy to park, especially in the evening.

The Nantucket Meat & Fish Market, located at Amelia Drive on Old South Road, is about to open.  In addition to seafood and meat, they will offer a variety of food staples and high-quality prepared foods.
