Nantucket Coco

Meet Erikka Perkin’s dog:

Coco, the Giant Chuhuahua!

Coco is an uncharacteristically friendly Chihuahua. From the first day we brought her home she made it her mission to win over Moxie and Lily, our much less friendly Shiba Inus.  Lily was particularly prickly and tried to establish boundaries in an all too aggressive manner.  It didn’t matter to Coco, she wasn’t taking no for an answer.  Shiba Inus are beautiful dogs but are generally anti-social.  They tend to shy away from attention.  When we would walk our ‘pack’, Coco was our ambassador, especially with children.  To this day if someone walks by Coco without greeting her she stops and stares.  You can almost see her thinking ‘but why didn’t they say hello?!?’  By the end of Lily’s life, she and Coco were sharing a bed.  Now Coco shares a bed with us.  She likes to sleep under the covers, between our legs.  If you aren’t positioned correctly, making a little nest for her to lay, she scratches at you until you get it right.  She’s a dog that knows what she wants and always goes after it.  I’ve often heard ‘dog people’ refer to that one special dog that comes along once in a lifetime.  Coco is that dog for us.
